Pt. 2 US & Iran Move Closer to Negotiations But Neo-Con Objectives Attempt to Pull Them ApartJESSICA DESVARIEUX, TRNN PRODUCER: Welcome to The Real News Network. I'm Jessica Desvarieux in Baltimore. We're picking up our conversation where it left off with Larry Wilkerson. We're discussing the neoconservative strategy in the region, particularly looking at Senator Graham, as well as Senator McCain. Now joining us is Larry Wilkerson to discuss all this. So, Larry, what is the actual strategy for neoconservatives in the region?

COL. LAWRENCE WILKERSON, FMR. CHIEF OF STAFF TO COLIN POWELL: I think that what you have is acolytes, disciples, if you will, of the extreme right wing in Israel, led by Netanyahu at the present time, working towards what has always been laughed at, really, by realists in the world and others, an ultimate strategy of the right wing in Israel to build a greater Israel. We're not just talking about the West Bank and Jerusalem; we're talking about eventually Jordan, much of Syria, the Sinai, and so forth being the greater Israel. And the way you do this is you destabilize the Arab nations around Israel. They're doing quite well with Lebanon right now, with the Syrian refugees pouring in; been doing really well with Jordan, with Iraqi refugees first, now Syrians adding to Jordan's instability. But what they want is they want no Iraqs, no Syrias, no Egypts, for that matter, and eventually no Saudi Arabias, and ultimately, too, no Irans that's cohesive, that's got a national purpose, that's large, fields major military forces, and can threaten Israel. So the way you do that is you divide and conquer. You get them into condition like Syria is in now, in a civil war, and you wind up with little statelets afterwards, and you don't have a big, huge Arab country capable of doing all the things big countries can do. And ultimately what you have is you have Israel as the hegemon in the region, and a much greater Israel, and you have all these Arab countries fighting amongst themselves and broken up into little pieces that constitute no threat towards Israel. I would hasten to add that what you're going to get coming out of those little pieces, however, is what we got on 9/11, what we got in Australia, or, rather, on their tragic day when they lost so many citizens in Bali, or as in Spain. What you're going to have is you're going to have enhanced terrorist capabilities all over the world, spawned in this massive area of conflict, which is conducive to Israel's security, allegedly, but which in reality, because we're really leaving the time of conventional armed forces waging battle on huge battlefields--what we're into, I think, is a time of the Thirty Years' War, where we've got all kinds of little princes running around in fiefdoms and fighting and so forth and husbanding their resources. And the principal means of attacking states like the United States or like Russia, for that matter, or any of the bigger countries is going to be terrorism. And this would be the spawning ground for it. So I don't see this as being a fulfillment that's positive. I see this as being a very dangerous situation that these people like Graham, like McCain, like Netanyahu and others are trying to foment in the Middle East so that they allegedly produce better security and a greater territory for Israel.

DESVARIEUX: So if I'm hearing you correctly, Larry, are you essentially saying that Americans and Israelis, at the end of the day, the threat that Iran poses--I know people always talk about the nuclear program, eventually having the capability to create a nuclear arm--is really at the forefront of their concerns? But at the end of the day, is it really about what Iran represents and Iran being such a big player in the region and that's really what's at stake here?

WILKERSON: You're absolutely correct. Let's just look at who the hegemon in the Gulf was for 26 years when their leader was our guy, the Shah. We counted on the Shah. We counted on Iran to keep the peace in the Gulf for 26 years, from 1953, when we overthrew Mosaddegh and install the Shah, to 1979, when the Shah finally fell. And we didn't do that because we were dumb. Iran was the natural hegemon. They had the military, they had the geography, they had the national cohesion, they had the economy, they had everything that made them the natural hegemon. None of that has changed. None of that has changed at all. So what this nuclear business is is camouflage for a struggle over hegemony in the Gulf. Is it going to be Saudi Arabia leading the Gulf Cooperation Council with the United States behind it? Is it going to be Israel from a slightly further distance with the United States behind it? Or is it going to be Iran without the United States behind it, a sort of a rogue nation but nonetheless the hegemon in the Gulf? That's the contest that's going on right now. And Israel's strategy--and I must hasten to add this is not Israel's strategy in and of the state of Israel; it is Netanyahu and the extreme right wing in Israel's strategy--is what you might call the greater Israel strategy. They do not want two states living side by side in peace. They do not want a peace agreement, period. What they want is a greater Israel forged more or less, and then defend it by military might. That would include part of Syria, more, probably, than the Golan Heights, as I said before, Jordan, the Sinai, and so forth. This is the greater Israel. And in order to achieve this, they want to see the Arab states around them collapsing and fighting like Syria is now and winding up with something that doesn't look like a formidable state afterwards that can field a formidable military. So this is a pretty astute strategy when you think about it, except for one thing, as I pointed out before: I don't think they're going to get what they want. Powell used to say, Colin Powell used to say, be careful what you wish for; you might get it. Well, that's the admonition I would give to these people.

DESVARIEUX: Okay. Well, thank you so much for joining us, Larry.

WILKERSON: Thanks for having me, Jessica.

DESVARIEUX: And thank you for joining us on The Real News Network.

Fake Al Qaeda
"The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the 'devil' only in order to drive the TV watcher to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US . . ." -- Pierre-Henri Bunel
"Ana raicha Al Qaeda" is colloquial for "I'm going to the toilet". A very common and widespread use of the word "Al-Qaeda" in different Arab countries in the public language is for the toilet bowl. This name comes from the Arabic verb "Qa'ada" which mean "to sit", pertinently, on the "Toilet Bowl". In most Arabs homes there are two kinds of toilets: "Al-Qaeda" also called the "Hamam Franji" or foreign toilet, and "Hamam Arabi" or "Arab toilet" which is a hole in the ground. Lest we forget it, the potty used by small children is called "Ma Qa'adia" or "Little Qaeda".
So, if you were forming a terrorist group, would you call yourself, "The Toilet"?

The Phony (Mossad) Al Qaeda Cell in Palestine
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon ... said that al-Qaeda militants were operating in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. "We know that they are there. We know that they are in Lebanon, working closely with Hezbollah. We know that they are in the region," he said. [BBC News - 12/5/2002]
Officials from the Palestinian Authority have accused the Israeli spy agency Mossad of setting up a fake al-Qaeda terrorist cell in Gaza. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said that Israel had set up the mock cell in order to justify attacks in Palestinian areas. [BBC News - 12/8/2002]

Adam Yahiye Gadahn: The Fake Terrorist
The FBI lists Gadahn's aliases as Abu Suhayb Al-Amriki, Abu Suhayb, Yihya Majadin Adams, Adam Pearlman, and Yayah.
But Adam Pearlmen is his REAL name! Adam is the grandson of the late Carl K. Pearlman; a prominent Jewish urologist in Orange County. Carl was also a member of the board of directors of the Anti-Defamation League, which was caught spying on Americans for Israel in 1993, much as AIPAC has been caught up in the more recent spy scandal.

Sent in by a reader: I recently saw the article you linked about Adam Pearlman and his brand new feature film in which he plays the character Azzam Al-Amrika. As someone who speaks Arabic, I thought it would be interesting for WRH readers to know a little bit about this particular name. First, Azzam in Arabic means either "determined" or "resolved". Second, "Al-Amrika" (it's sometimes spelled "Amerika") translates back to "America". Interesting use of words Mr. Pearlman is using for a name, I'd say. But even without having to translate the whole name, no Arab has the last name of Amrika. The name, translated, almost sounds like a Bush soundbite.

And another faker surfaces!
On any given day, log on to RevolutionMuslim.com and a host of startling images appear: - The Statue of Liberty, with an ax blade cutting through her side;
- Video mocking the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, entitled "Daniel Pearl I am Happy Your Dead :) ";
- Video of a puppet show lampooning U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq;
- The latest speech from Sheikh Abdullah Faisal, an extremist Muslim cleric convicted in the UK and later deported for soliciting the murder of non-Muslims.
Even more surprising is that RevolutionMuslim.com isn't being maintained in some remote safe house in Pakistan. Instead, Yousef al-Khattab, the Web site creator, runs it from his home in the New York City Borough of Queens.
...
Formerly known as Joseph Cohen, al-Khattab is an American-born Jew who converted to Islam after attending an Orthodox Rabbinical school, which he later described as a "racist cult."
Abu Tallah Al-Amrikee, the "muslim" who threatened South Park using the above RevolutionMuslim.com website, is really named Zachary Adam Chesser!
Al-Qaeda cleric exposed as an MI5 double agent
ONE of al-Qaeda's most dangerous figures has been revealed as a double agent working for MI5, raising criticism from European governments, which repeatedly called for his arrest. Britain ignored warnings - which began before the September 11 attacks - from half a dozen friendly governments about Abu Qatada's links with terrorist groups and refused to arrest him. Intelligence chiefs hid from European allies their intention to use the cleric as a key informer against Islamic militants in Britain.
...
Indignant French officials accused MI5 of helping the cleric to abscond. While he remained on the run, one intelligence chief in Paris was quoted as saying: "British intelligence is saying they have no idea where he is, but we know where he is and, if we know, I'm quite sure they do."

Arab League Report Provides Evidence CIA, MI6, Mossad Behind Violence in Syria

Excerpts from the Arab League observers’ report on Syria make it clear that the establishment media is only telling part of the story and exaggerating violence by the al-Assad government and its police and military.

The report mentions an “armed entity’ that is killing civilians and police and conducting terrorist attacks targeting innocent civilians. Casualties from these attacks are attributed to the al-Assad government and used to build a case against Syria in the United Nations.
Rebels in Idlib, Syria. Evidence reveals they are supported by the CIA, MI6, and Mossad.
According to the Arab League report, the “Free Syria Army” and “armed opposition groups” are responsible for many of the killings.
In January, it was reported that MI6, the CIA, and British SAS are in Syria working with the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian National Council to overthrow the al-Assad regime. The Free Syrian Army is widely recognized as a creation of NATO. It is comprised largely of militants from the Muslim Brotherhood – itself an asset of British intelligence – and is funded, supported, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Turkey.
The report lends credence to reports filed in November of last year by journalist Webster Tarpley, who visited the Middle Eastern nation.
“What average Syrians of all ethnic groups say about this is that they are being shot at by snipers. People complained that there are terrorist snipers who are shooting at civilians, blind terrorism simply for the purpose of destabilizing the country. I would not call this civil war – it is a very misleading term. What you are dealing with here are death squads, you are dealing with terror commandos; this is a typical CIA method. In this case it’s a joint production of CIA, MI6, Mossad, it’s got money coming from Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates and Qatar,” Tarpley told RT.
Tarpley said the United States is pushing a “bankrupt model of the color revolution, backed up by terrorist troops – people from Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood” and the objective is “to smash the Middle East according to ethnic lines.”
Excerpts from the Arab League observers’ report make it clear “that there is widespread violence on both sides, but that the opposition and the Western media have exaggerated the violence and casualties inflicted by government forces,” writes Nicolas Davies for War Is A Crime blog, formerly After Downing Street.
“The UN has stopped accepting casualty figures claimed by the opposition, and has frozen its “official” estimate of civilian deaths at 5,400, without acknowledging that this may already be highly exaggerated,” Davies explains. “This is not yet a bloodbath on the scale of Libya, where even the new government admits that at least 25,000 people died in the NATO-led war.  Syria could follow the Libya model though, if NATO and the GCC keep providing weapons and military training to the Free Syrian Army and are prepared to beef it up with special forces on the ground, and as long as the UN approves a no-fly zone to provide cover for another 9,700 air strikes.”
The establishment media put the number of dead between 1,000 and 5,000. The International Criminal Court, Hisham Abu Hajer (of the Libyan “rebels,” in other words al-Qaeda), Pravda and other sources put the number at between 50,000 and 100,000. Tarpley estimated the number at 150,000, a staggering number for a population of just under six and half million people.
Relevant excepts from Report of the Head of the League of Arab States Observer Mission to Syria from December 24, 2011 to January 18, 2012 follow:
“The Mission determined that there is an armed entity that is not mentioned in the protocol. This development on the ground can undoubtedly be attributed to the excessive use of force by Syrian Government forces in response to protests that occurred before the deployment of the Mission demanding the fall of the regime. In some zones, this armed entity reacted by attacking Syrian security forces and citizens, causing the Government to respond with further violence. In the end, innocent citizens pay the price for those actions with life and limb.
In Homs, Idlib and Hama, the Observer Mission witnessed acts of violence being committed against Government forces and civilians that resulted in several deaths and injuries. Examples of those acts include the bombing of a civilian bus, killing eight persons and injuring others, including women and children, and the bombing of a train carrying diesel oil. In another incident in Homs, a police bus was blown up, killing two police officers. A fuel pipeline and some small bridges were also bombed.
28. The Mission noted that many parties falsely reported that explosions or violence had occurred in several locations. When the observers went to those locations, they found that those reports were unfounded.
29. The Mission also noted that, according to its teams in the field, the media exaggerated the nature of the incidents and the number of persons killed in incidents and protests in certain towns.
According to their latest reports and their briefings to the Head of the Mission on 17 January 2012 in preparation for this report, group team leaders witnessed peaceful demonstrations by both Government supporters and the opposition in several places. None of those demonstrations were disrupted, except for some minor clashes with the Mission and between loyalists and opposition. These have not resulted in fatalities since the last presentation before the Arab Ministerial Committee on the Situation in Syria at its meeting of 8 January 2012.
Some observers reneged on their duties and broke the oath they had taken. They made contact with officials from their countries and gave them exaggerated accounts of events. Those officials consequently developed a bleak and unfounded picture of the situation.
Arab and foreign audiences of certain media organizations have questioned the Mission’s credibility because those organizations use the media to distort the facts. It will be difficult to overcome this problem unless there is political and media support for the Mission and its mandate. It is only natural that some negative incidents should occur as it conducts its activities because such incidents occur as a matter of course in similar missions.
75. Recently, there have been incidents that could widen the gap and increase bitterness between the parties. These incidents can have grave consequences and lead to the loss of life and property. Such incidents include the bombing of buildings, trains carrying fuel, vehicles carrying diesel oil and explosions targeting the police, members of the media and fuel pipelines. Some of those attacks have been carried out by the Free Syrian Army and some by other armed opposition groups.
Since its establishment, attitudes towards the Mission have been characterized by insincerity or, more broadly speaking, a lack of seriousness. Before it began carrying out its mandate and even before its members had arrived, the Mission was the target of a vicious campaign directed against the League of Arab States and the Head of the Mission, a campaign that increased in intensity after the observers’ deployment. The Mission still lack the political and media support it needs in order to fulfill its mandate. Should its mandate be extended, the goals set out in the Protocol will not be achieved unless such support is provided and the Mission receives the backing it needs to ensure the success of the Arab solution.”
